New restaurant filling the void left by Cioppino’s closing (02/2009): Dune, an entirely new restaurant slated for opening for Summer 2009 will open in the location of the former restaurant Cioppino’s. Dune will happily be added to the family of restaurants operating year-round and will offer new age American cuisine. The owner, Michael Vetter has been on Nantucket for several years and has worked at several successful businesses including American Seasons. The new head chef leading the kitchen will be Philip Kirschen-Clark.

Boarding House and Pearl owners scheduled to open new Restaurant at the recently closed Water Street (01/15/2009): According to the Inquirer & Mirror, Seth and Angela Raynor, owners of the two popular Federal Street eateries are planning to open a Latin-American inspired restaurant in the former location of water street. Alice's Restaurant Closing (11/2008):
-Alice’s Airport restaurant will be closing its doors after only 3 years of operation. Due to outstanding loan payments, the owners will have to shut down until further notice. Having taken the place of the much loved Hutch’s in 2006, Alice’s somewhat failed to take off at the airport location. No plans have been announced about what will take its place.
-Another downtown restaurant closes its doors permanently. Cioppino’s Restaurant will be closing for good this Spring. Joining the list along with Water Street as another downtown establishment to go out of business, the restaurant that has been serving quality Italian fare at its prominent central location for over 12 years will be gone due to circumstances unknown.
